Day 374-MMoT & The Garden Shop

Mum and Dad knew, even before we left for Taiwan, that I would need a day to myself. That was the day I was to visit the Miniature Museum of Taiwan or MMoT. This was my 2nd, no 3rd visit. 3rd because during my 1st trip to Taipei, I actually went to the museum 2 days in a row.

I was a lot calmer this time. There was less clicking of the camera and more enjoying the details. In fact, I think I only took detailed pictures of about 3-4 exhibits. Many of the exhibits were still the same as when I last visited but there were a few new ones commissioned by the Museum for their 13-15th anniversaries, those intervening years when I was not there.

This was one of them. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I spotted this Garden Shop by Bill Lankford, commissioned to commemorate the museum's 14th anniversary.

The scale was 1:12 although it was a really small 1:12 house. Yet, the plants depicted were so tiny. He was obviously way better a gardener than me, that Bill. His wisteria made me laugh at mine. Note to self: no more calling my sea lavender wisteria. They will henceforth be referred to as strange purple creepers.

To be fair Bill, I have never seen real wisteria. Google Image does not count. Then maybe there are a few species? Granted yours is a far, far superior one.

This is the inside of the shop.

Details

I like this house but it was not my favourite exhibit. I think I took to this house for one obvious reason. My abandoned house, of course.

The one I really love was also lush with flowers and green. Do you want to see it?

Yes! Yes I want to see it!

I can completely understand why you're so drawn to this tiny house-I thought it was a new project of yours before I started reading. There's a lot of Sans in this beautiful creation, though your work is so infused with stories that they are as much about the philosophy as the physical.

We do have wisteria here, and I have to tell you, it doesn't look real even when it's real! I always think about William Faulkner novels when I see it, so, like your houses, they are scented with stories for me. I But I think you can call yours wisteria, it's an almost imaginary flower, open to interpretation.

This museum would probably make me crazy. I felt that way in the Museum of Folk Art in New Mexico, so excited the first time I went there that I could barely concentrate...

Ha! You don't dare NOT to show us more!
And don't be so harsh to yourself. I mean this house is sitting in a Museum! We will exhibit there in a couple of years. Don't rush things ... We need something to look forward, too ... right ? ;-)

Well, if that's the question... than the answer is NO. Simply no! Sorry, I don't want to see it... can't help that... the truth is I NEED to see it... real soon! Because if it took you away I will be taken away, too! But this garden shop is stunning and very inspiring. And I must admit I'm thinking of calling my thatched roof bundles "strange strawy thingies" from now on... *sigh* My, what a roof... *deepsigh*

Dear Sans! You are leaving us here AGAIN??? Of Course, we want to see it!!! One Absolutely Stunning Mini house is simply NOT enough for one post! Lol! Oh, but it is a Garden House.... so I must go back and visit it ten times to see all the lovely little details... LOVE the Front door!!!! As for Wisteria... I have to tell you, I tried growing it in my old Garden... the vines grew rampant but never flowered! We were too cold in the Spring and the buds would get killed. So I will believe your wisteria is real.... Also, it Flowers when the green leaves are just emerging.... so most of what you see is the blossoms covering the vine!
I wish I could visit that Museum... it must be So Inspiring!!!

Ana, your wish is my command. So I have just posted on my favourite exhibit .

And in my other blog were more photos ad nauseum of my previous trips to the museum. http://sansddprojects.blogspot.sg/2009_04_01_archive.html

If I have time, I will post this wonderful Japanese street that I didn't take any pics of the last time because my camera ran out of battery.

Ewalina ! I can kiss you 100 times for making me feel better :) Hahahaha so Bill's wisteria is not quite like your real thing too! :):):) *evil laugh

You will see in my next post why I love Bill Lankford's world when he uses dolls :). I am particularly attracted to his work this time because of the green and flowers as well of course. :)

Amy, I believe most of us won't know how to build a project without stories. :) They always start with the stories, right?

Bill Lankford's work is truly amazing but his garden shop did not win my heart because I don't see a history. It's just a shop. His Dinotopia however is quite the opposite. There is also Woodlands which he filled with naughty fairies and elves. Both wonderful creations that will inevitably draw you in.

These are the kind of worlds we all want to create, don't we?

And yes, one with wisteria :).

Sans! said...

Ohhhhh Christine, ABSOLUTELY! Let's make a pact to go see each other's work when we exhibit :):):). AND you jolly well sign whatever autograph I demand of you, ok? teehee

Sans! said...

Birgit! STOP! You Super Stovewoman, you! No more belittling your work. Get ready a good pen for autographs as well!

Bets, you can and you will. This museum was once touted as 2nd to the one in Holland but I understand from Josje that the one in Holland has since closed.

Even this one is a private museum.

Despite the fact that it is my 3rd time, visiting it when I am no longer a noob, I still think it is a wonderful treasure trove of magical worlds. So go! And I will want to see the Museum in New Mexico :)

Margriet said...

Thank you for taking us with you to this wonderful museum!!! The gardenshop is beautiful!
But don't be so harsh on yourself...I'm sure the museum doesn't have something so special as your junkyard or all your other magical places!!!
