Day 346- Supertree

Supertree Grove, Gardens By The Bay, 29/6/2012

I live in a garden city.

In a land scarce country like Singapore where blocks of apartments were built within a stone's throw from each other, we could have easily gone the way of a Blade-Runner-Dystopia if not for our trees and gardens. The pursuit for a greener Singapore started shortly after we became independent and our efforts today were no less tenacious than it was some 45 years ago.

School of The Arts, 29/6/2012

From Garden City to City in A Garden, we plant huge trees in the middle of bustling roads, smaller ones to grace sidewalks. We built gardens after gardens and when we ran out of space for our fronds and floral, we created vertical green walls as high as any buildings, as if they are giant trees to climb into the sky.

Gardens By The Bay, 29/6/2012

I grew up with them, like they were my friends

and more than just a way to beautify the environment, they spell home for me. I love how they always lift my spirit, bring me smiles, make me love.

Mostly, I love how they always, always inspire...

Todas las ciudades deberían de tomar ejemplo, es hermoso ver tanto verde y en cambio en algunas sólo se ve cemento.
Como dice Ascensión, espero poder verlo algún día por mis propios ojos.

Love the first and the last view, they are amazing!
Really futuristic and at the same time from real life and fairytale!

Love the way the plants grow along the building of the School of art!

Thanks for these beautiful pictures - and the background on the place where you work and live. In a way this explains a lot to me... your city spreads magic to those who are able to see it, no surprise inhabitants like you can spread magic, too...

Beautiful trees. We visited Singapore on a group tour many years ago. I do not remember these metal trees monuments but we were deeply impressed with the cleanliness and green trees everywhere. The highlight of our visit were the orchid gardens. You have a beautiful country.
Hugs, Drora

Thanks for showing!
We 'only' have birches growing vertically. ;-)
Sans, have a guess how my daughter named her cat? NEKO! Of course I asked if she read your comment from my blog but she didn't know anything about it. This was just an other coincidence what happens to me in the blog and mini world. :-)
HUGS!

Maria :) one time as I was running with my friends and came across buildings after buildings covered in walls of cascading greens, I told my friend, Singapore may one day be considered a green wonder of the world :) I will so love living in a city where all our buildings are covered in plants :)

Kikka I love that too :). So much so I wish for all the buildings in Singapore to be graced in greens, from head to toe :).

Christine! Durians! Hahaha :)

Just let me know when you will be here :). You know I will just love to meet you :)

Sans! said...

I am keeping my fingers crossed, Eva. This time, maybe we can go to the other places like Cambodia, Myanmar or Laos too!

Dearest Birgit, for the longest time, I stopped experiencing the magic :). You know the saying, familiarity breeds contempt . I am so glad for all of you, who saw my country with a freshness and newness and wonder that is just infectious!

Sounds so silly but you guys make me realise how much I really love my country :):)

Sans! said...

Jean, they light them up at night so the supertrees look even more surreal :)

Sans! said...

Piikko,I always think blogworld is a magical place :). It really is :).

And this fascination with Neko is universal :)

Teehee, Bets, I have a bit of a acrophobia. That bridge between the trees were made with perforated metal sheets and I could see through the holes to the ground as I was 100s of feet up there. Ask Ro, I nearly went into a panic :)

Contrast this with my climb up the rickety and broken metal steelcase at Sigiriya, Sri Lanka . I don't understand my head sometimes :):)

Sans! said...

Drora, would you believe I have never visited the orchid gardens :). I must sometime :).

Sans! said...

Me alegro de que creo que sí, querida Ana Garcia:) Nadie puede vencer a la Madre Naturaleza :)

Hi Sans! I have been thinking about you today. I tell you why..this morning I opened today's newspaper and there was an article about the Garden City. I said 'HAhah' this is old news for me. I knew all this a loooong time ago be course of my dear blog friend! :-))))
Have a great week!

You can imagine how much I love trees, whether real or imagined or painted or sculpted, and your city's trees are amazing. Your Supertree Grove looks absolutely magical, I would love to be one of the tiny people in your photograph. What's inside the glassed in area of the largest tree?

I love how even things that aren't meant to be trees are treated as if they were - right near my house a huge family of green parrots have turned a tall cell phone tower into their home, complete with a vast communal nest.

I will keep dreaming about seeing all those wonders someday with my own eyes...until that day, thank you for showing me your beautiful part of the world Sans!!!
