Day 336- Suitcase Garden For Drora

I had a request of the friends who wanted one of these rusty suitcase gardens during my 3rd anniversary secret draw. I had confessed that each garden would take me a few days to complete. That was why I couldn't make one for everyone who commented on my anniversary posts. Since I knew my rusty garden might not suit everyone's houses, these friends had a choice for me to send them other store bought minis. If they should pick a rusty garden however, then all I asked of them was that they find a place for it in their dollhouses or roomboxes.

Drora had showed me a picture of this wonderful outhouse she built with a group of miniaturists in Israel. She told me she thought a rusty garden with plants could be used in a shabbied neglected setting with this outhouse. I really loved that idea. In fact, I had very ambitious plans for the suitcase garden I wanted to build Drora;  something with pipes and water that would connect the outhouse to my rusty suitcase. I didn't have the confidence nor measurements however to make water running through a pipe so the idea was abandoned.

This particular garden took me so long to conceptualise. In the end, I drew inspiration from my own throne/lavatory/powder room. I have always loved good smells and my bathroom has always been decorated with bowls of potpourri and incense, oils or soaps. So I thought of building a natural air freshener for Drora by creating a potpourri garden.

This is a little potpourri flower arrangement from a dried flower from the garden. I thought of making this after exchanging with Illona emails on ikebana. This is a very rustic and rusty version of course!

Hi Susan!! Drora will be very happy, when her suitcase arrives at her place!! So, this was your ikebana-idea ;) Love it!
In the meanwhile I've been busy with the bamboo.

True words, Drora will love her suitcase! A potpourri garden, of course! And I love your incense burner. I'm working on a lavatory for the old blue barn, mainly to house the electrical chords from my new lights, but now I'm inspired to make it more than I planned.

I love what you do with the pockets in your suitcases, as if they hold the metaphors that speak for us. Because what are suitcase, really? They carry the things we can't go away without, or, at home, the store the things we need to keep. Beautiful, Sans.

I have no doubts Drora will love it and it will fit perfectly with her project. I adore you for making your gorgeous suitcase gardens so personal for the one who is lucky to receive it. The idea of a potpourri garden is fantastic, and it was fun to follow your mind wanderings how you came up with that idea. And I am so very proud to live with a flutterybeary who owns one of your gorgeous suitcase gardens... ;O)

Greetings
Birgit

Oh, How SWEET!!! (Hee hee...!) I LOVE that Drora's will adorn "The Necessary!" And it will surely make that the Best Dressed Outhouse around! It is so wonderful to watch you take a single idea and repeat it in so many variations... that is what Artists do... playing with a theme! And here you have put it all into making the Gifts Personalized... do you know how Special that Talent is... to sense what would suit another person so perfectly?
I am sure Drora must be smiling from ear to ear!

Your giveaway is so easy, dearie. Anyone will love your flowers!

Amy, my work is not as beautiful as your words :):).

And you wanted to build a loo just to house your wires??!! Noooooo, of course you should make it more. People think I am joking when I say my lavatory is the room I work on first every time I move. It is my sanctuary and I always try to make it a special place :).

I can't wait to see you working on minis again :).

Ro, that's why I am taking so long to finish all these gardens! It's been 6 months and I have only done 5? Just one more to go, hopefully I can work on it this weekend :)

Norma!!!!!!!!!!! New pic of you :) and a fabulous one too :). Love, love, love it!

Birgit :):), I do kind of get a little anxious over each of this garden :). Wondering if I might disappoint, or if it will suit the person or her taste etc etc. Not everyone will enjoy something grimy and rusty , right? That's why I wanted the people to choose and if they do pick the garden, to let me know how or where they intend to use the garden. I try to make it as relevant as possible. Hopefully, my garden won't be chucked away in a box :):). Hehe

Thank you Bets :):) 1000 kisses :). I am not sure if this one is what Drora expects though :):). I guess one will never know since no one will tell you anything apart from how much they appreciate what you have done :).

Sometimes just to amuse myself, I thought of how this community will be like if the world is like the movie "The invention of Lies". You know, where everyone is brutally honest because lies have not been invented..you'll have old ladies walking past a pram going : oh my, that baby is so ugly! Or someone saying, Your Gardens really suck, Sans! But we still love you anyway...heh heh heh :)

Thank you Vic :):)

Ewalina, I am blessed with a company /community where great ideas abound! Everyone here has a rich imagination! And so definitely do you :).

Now I just need to put in the hours so that what I create can finally match what I see in my head LOL!

Sans! said...

Eliana, I think I may steal Drora's idea and make an outhouse myself :):).I really like it !
