Day 334- A Piece Of Cloth

I handed my nephew a scrap of cloth and told him : Pretend this piece of cloth is from one of the broken cars; let's see if we can use it somewhere in the junkyard. Maybe we can hang it on a tree?

He responded almost immediately : I know! We make a kite with it and then have it get stuck in the tree!

My respect for Nat went up tenfold that day.

So we made our kite on our 5th Saturday afternoon together. I showed him how to cut little pieces for the tail while I mounted the kite on a T made with tooth pick.

Would you believe I could not tell who's fingers these belonged to just a moment ago? I had to study my nails before I decided it must have been Nat's. Perhaps our hands are starting to look alike? Is that what happens when 2 people have been creating together for a while?

Birth date of Kite 26 May 2012

I will end today's post with a beautiful poem by Lenard Cohen.

A Kite is a VictimNext
A kite is a victim you are sure of.
You love it because it pulls
gentle enough to call you master,
strong enough to call you fool;
because it lives
like a desperate trained falcon
in the high sweet air,
and you can always haul it down
to tame it in your drawer.

A kite is a fish you have already caught
in a pool where no fish come,
so you play him carefully and long,
and hope he won't give up,
or the wind die down.

A kite is the last poem you've written,
so you give it to the wind,
but you don't let it go
until someone finds you
something else to do.

A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.
Leonard Cohen

Children often have the best imagination. What a great idea-and a wonderful scene you are making. These times creating with you will be memories with him for a lifetime Sans ♥

My deepest admiration to Nat for seeing the kite in this tiny piece of cloth... What a fantastic detail in your fantastic project - and I loved the poem/song lyrics very much. Nevertheless - speaking of kites and seeing this one in the tree, I can't avoid thinking of my dear Charlie Brown, never giving up to fly his kite - and struggling against the kite-eating tree... ;O)

Greetings
Birgit

Brilliant idea! Executed with Perfection and Devotion... befitting an emblem of lost hopes.... abandoned dreams..... a Relic to match the cars in their rusted Splendor!
And your Pictures Sans! are Breathtaking... that first shot SO Real.... and the ones of Nat in concentrated creativity are Priceless!
I LOVE what you are Creating Together!!!

Dear Kim, its good to see you back on blogland :). I have read some of your latest entries.

It has been quite something working with a child like Nat, at times exhilarating, sometimes frustrating because he's so impatient but mostly surprising :), pleasantly always :). I am glad I am able to document these moments with him and even happier they are shared with friends like you.

Eliana, for this piece of poetry, I'll have to say the idea is all Nat's. :)

Remco, this must be what it is like when you are creating with your son :).

I am absolutely sure Nat is an Artist!:D I don't think you have something like a godchild and a godmother but I am sure you are his soulmother, dearest Sam.;)
The kite is a very special one. Would you believe I was thinking of exactly the same colours for a new project yesterday?;) Although still haven't decided yet.;)

Teehee Birgit , yes the kite eating tree :):):) I even love that name "Kiteus Eatemupus" !! Maybe Nat and I should make a sign underneath our tree that says "Kiteus Eatemupus" :). Ooooohhh , I am beginning to like that idea more and more....thank you Birgit!

Sans! said...

Natalia, haha :) I will have to go a little slow about introducing Nat to Nat :). He's a little scared of girls at the moment! Not for long I am sure....:)

Sans! said...

THANK YOU Bestess :):) You do pay the best compliments in a most amazing way :).

The junkyard is now quite quite different from the 1st picture , I am afraid. :) The project has taken on a life of its own. Last Saturday, I couldn't decide what Nat's expression said when he first saw the transformed junkyard :):).

Children ARE imagination! We adults have to take care after "the child in us", is my opinion.
Sans! this is going to be a gorgeous project, thanks for sharing.
I read about the CAR CAR on my blog, silly girl!! I love it, it made me smile :D

Oh my God!! You and your nephew are great artists!! Both of you!!! Are everybody like you in your family?? Great ideas, and fantastic hands. A very strong kiss and a very stronh hug.

Sans! said...

Ewalina, I love the green of this kite. I added the reds because red is the colour of the car.

We have the same concept of Godma and God kids here but not soul mothers. Is that something you invent, Ewa? Sounds like the poet in you :). 2-3 years back, I appointed myself the Godma of Nathniel's sister, Qesha. I love them all and I dare say equally too but Qesha is the quieter one and I just instinctively feel more protective towards her. She is also very creative and less impatient than Nat. I hope to have a chance to work with all my nieces and nephews like this one day :). They are very good teachers.

Sans! said...

Maria, I love the poem and am still trying to memorise it!

Sans! said...

Thank you Margriet! :) That tree looked a bit bare then so the kite was good addition. It is a little different now and I hope you can tell me what you think when I next show it :).

Sans! said...

-P-, Nat is my hero , not the other way around :).

Sans! said...

Norma S, I will tell him :). One thing I can say about Nat, his self belief is not lacking :). He knows he's come up with a few great ideas for this project. :)

Sans! said...

abrazossssssssss

Sans! said...

Thank you V!

Sans! said...

Illona :) lo buena se pega ..heh heh I think my nephew's love for cars has infected me :). Although he's into ships now. I guess that was why I got a little excited when I saw your painting of the car. :)

I am very blessed. I believe the child in me has not left :)

Sans! said...

Thank you Faby! :) "Original" is the best compliment!

Sans! said...

Martaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! It is GREAT to see you here on my blog!!! How are you???? I still remember our hugs ..heh heh ..I felt like a giant :):):). You are such a petite one!

Nat sends his kisses and we both thank you for your kind compliments!

What a great idea from an obviously smart young man. Oh, the memories you are creating with him, such special times.

Kite making was big when I was little, glad to see it has not gone out of style, and what a style twist the two of you have put on it. Kudos to you both. :)

Hey Dale :):) wecome back to blogland :).

There's a revival of kite flying in Singapore. In Bali, the kites are really elaborate. They even make pirate ships that look like they are sailing in the sky :)

Sans! said...

Norma. what runs in my family is our sense of humour :):). And yes, we all have weird and whacky imaginations :)

Sans! said...

Drora!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you read my post on the suitcase garden I made you???? I posted your pic of the outhouse, I hope you don't mind but I really love what you did with it and wanted to share :). I really hope we will get to see your outhouse done :):). Take your time...I sure took mine :):):)
