Day 332-Flower Power Yellow Bug

On the 3rd Saturday we met, i.e. 12th May 2012, Nat brought with him a yellow beetle. It has lost one wheel and 2 window panes and the bumper was slightly dislodged. I was very pleased as just the Saturday before, I had told Nat that we didn't have enough cars. He knew we couldn't just use any cars because they must be of the same scale and of course, they must already be broken.

This is perfect.

I found out later from my mum that the yellow buggy was not quite as broken when Nat found it. Without telling me what he had done, Nat had decided he should bash the car by hitting it a few times on the floor, break the plastic windows and then try to pry the bumper off.

O well, better the car in our junkyard then one abandoned in a toy box, I thought when I decided I would not confront him about it.

Nat wanted this car to retain its original bright yellow. He also wanted the bonnet open so that the inside could be seen. Maybe plants can grow in there, he told me.

For some reason, I did not take any pictures of the rusted  bug that Saturday when it was done. These pictures were taken just minutes before I started this post. They were taken under a bright white light.

Rusting this one was the trickiest so far because of its colour. It was easier for me to dull or weather a muted colour like blue or even red than a bright one like yellow.

As you can see, I have left much of Nat's yellow and that bit of green behind, even those bits on the wheels. Eventually these wheels will be slightly hidden.

I really like the inside of this bonnet and for me, that attention with the wheel was what made this model car stood out from the others. I hope I had done it justice with my painting.

Needless to say, there was a plant growing in there just as Nat had directed. A 5 petal daisy if there is such a thing or a yellow buttercup perhaps? Whatever it is, it's meant to resemble..

Hey Tata Ah Yee, the car looked just like when the flower sticker was on it!

That's the whole idea, Teedee. This shall be our flower power yellow bug.
What do you think? Is it too girly?

No, Tata Ah Yee, I think our car is just awesome!

Hi, I make miniatures, but my husband collects and restores old cars...he often stops the car and drags the whole family to look at the old car in the field. They look just like what your son is making. Sometimes they even have trees growing out of them. Great job!

This is far away from being girly... breathtaking, stunning, awesome is something that comes to my mind, but not girly... This Flower Power Yellow Bug is simply amazing - and so is Nat. What a clever little guy... ;O) Maybe you should give him a big bowl of strawberries as a reward for finding and preparing this bug...

Hugs
Birgit

P.S.: Speaking of yellow - did you ever get my E-Mail with the photos?

Awesome work Sans and Nat!

Not girly at all.

Awesome is exactly what it is! I love the idea of the plants taking it over, of it becoming the garden. There's a garden here where an old red stove and some bicycles have been turned into planters, but this is so much better. And what garden wouldn't be complete with out Beetles and Bugs?

Nat is a Genius! And You are a Magician! The Rust is Awesome! And I think Nat is Definitely on a Roll... bashing cars to fill the Junkyard!! He is being SO Creative! There can be no "resurrection" without the "Death" of the cars! And I think the Flower idea is Beyond Perfect! The symbolism and allegory are so Real.... understood by a Child even though he could not describe it... but he Knows! This whole Project is AWESOME!
And your Photos are Stunning!
I am Never disappointed in your Posts or your work, Sans!

Nat was clever leaving some of the bright yellow, it's not girly, it's like real life. Your rust work is superb, I shake my head and admire.

OMG, I am totally with you on the bashing, Margriet. If you can't bash it, don't buy it ! LOL, unless it's your 1st dollhouse fair.

My nephew is very funny that way. Just the other day when he was here and reading my last blog post, he asked if you all knew that the cars were painted and not left out in the rain to rust (there were many pictures of the cars taken in the open). That would be like cheating right? he asked. I assured him that you all knew that the rust was painted. He asked if that was why I put up pictures of him painting. To prove that ..:).

Margriet, you MUST MUST MUST! Super fun!

Roooooo!! Yay!!! Free texting with you when you get your Samsung smartphone! There are so many smartphoen apps we can use to communicate with each other for free! It is not an easy phone (I still don't know how to use it) but everyone who has it swear by Samsung- FaiZ, Justin , my dad :). They have a humongous version (Samsung Galaxy Note?) that looks like you are holding a clutch bag against your ear when you answer your phone! LOL

Will be extra useful when we are travelling but DO NOT subscribe to data roaming when abroad. My dad once chalked up S$3000 in phone bills because he was surfing in Malaysia!!

Hi Lucy, Nat is my nephew :)and kisses from him for such high praises :). Rather, maybe just hugs. He's a little anti girls at the moment.

You are prophetic, by the way :):) and will know what I mean when you see the completed junkyard :).

I have always been curious why boys /men love cars. I once asked my nephew when he was little little why and he told me it was because of the wheels. Motion ? I am still curious :).
