Day 262 & 266-Autumn Harvest

A harvest day in August, balmy

My dear Diary,

What a big, big harvest day we had today. Surely, it must be the biggest I have seen. OM thinks so too for I heard him exclaimed :this must be our largest gathering in the last decade! Our crops were so plentiful that we could give baskets of them away. They were mainly potatoes, cucumbers, big fiery green chillis and some lady's fingers.

When we brought some of ours to Kivachi, she gave us this huge platter of her produce in return. There were so many varieties of vegetables that her platter was like a burst of fall colours. Pale pumpkins with blood red sweet potatoes, dusty small onions and tomatoes in  2 shades of green. She knew I love carrots so she gave us the really orange ones and although I really don't like mushrooms, Kivachi knew mama loves them so she dug out three precious ones for her. She even managed to grow some avocados which was really difficult in our region. She did not have many of them so she gave us just two but what a treat that was already! She also threw in some of her own potatoes, for some comparison, she said. Mine may be smaller than yours, she told OM, but I think they are just as tasty. OM snorted when he heard that and piled even more of our own potatoes into her baskets. You will want to throw away yours after you have tasted mine, he said. We all laughed at their exchange. Everyone knows Kivachi grows the best vegetables in the village, maybe even the best in the whole of Rajasthan!

Thanks to Lakshmi's good harvest blessings, our luck just kept getting better. When we went over to our new neighbour, Sindhi and gifted her with a sack of our potatoes, she gave us a present too. Way better than our potatoes, it was a basket worth of luscious, juicy persimmons. We found out to our great delight that Sindhi too is a gifted farmer. Mama is saving those persimmons which she is treating like gold for the harvest festival. I just can't wait to sink my teeth into one of those yummy fruits and have persimmon juice running down my chin! Hmmmmmm...

I just love harvest time. The kitchen is always full. Full of fruits and vegetables, fishes from the river, sacks of grains.

Even the old crate in the corner is never empty. For now it is filled with Kivachi's best coconuts, ready to be grated for Mama's famous curries .

Harvest time is a time when our home is filled with the rewards of our hard work and the gifts of good neighbours. Papa says this is the time we can really count our blessings and if that is so, then I think we are well and truly blessed.

Ok, I'm here sipping one glass of the fruit of last year harvest aka Barbera ;o) and enjoying yours.
My dear, you have the gift of turning anything to pure gold. The way you photograph your goodies , the way you write... Ahhhh, I love it. Each post is like a new episode of a novel and you would really write a book. I am more than sure that it would be a GREAT SUCCESS.
Kivachi and Sindhi are truly the best gardeners/farmers but it's only you who makes veggies come alive. hugs, Rosanna

Dear Sans! Like the others, I think the mini Harvest you have is AMAZINGLY Beautifully REAL! It is a Tribute to the talents of those mini-Masters Kivachi and Sindhi (hee hee..... those Names are Wonderful!) but also to YOUR Talent for gathering and presenting and photographing and Telling the Tale..... it Transports us to Another World!
It takes ME Back to my Farm-girl days... It is Harvest Time here too.. the Frosts are coming and it is getting Dark too early But we must go out and bring in ALL the food that will be damaged by a Frost.... and the Kitchen is Piled High with crates and Baskets of Tomatoes, squash.... Beans, peppers Cucumbers... and herbs to dry..... And you are Filled with an Amazing Exhilaration at the Success of the Harvest! Oh what RICHES! Thank you for taking me Back there.......!

Every time I stop by there's always something that readjusts my ideas about miniature perfection, Sans. The harvest is beyond perfect, one of those I can't believe it's not real moments. But I always experience this with your work. The coconuts! And the mushrooms, and avocados and...I must come to Rajasthan. I will eat well, that's certain.

Oh my Sans! I had to blink at the first two photos of the vegetables wondering if they were miniatures or the real thing. Amazing, I admire your vision.

Dear Sans, I know that autumn is your favorite season, for climatic reasons and color, so I read this post with the knowledge that you are at peace with the spirit :-)
After returning from vacation, I read little by little all of your last post, always fascinated by the images that speak to you ... I am definitely convinced that your doll's house is "museum" quality, for sensitivity and depth artistic and cultural that you shows, even when they are just pumpkins!
Hava a nice Sunday, dear friend

Rosanna, your words are as sweet as that glass of Barbera you are drinking :).

And speaking of fruit juice, my dad found this recipe called the ABCC juice- apple, beetroot, carrot and celery and I have been drinking it every morning. It's supposed to lower blood pressure, cleanse blood, strengthen bones and most importantly, keep you slim! ;)

Sans! said...

Jeanette, I am really happy to see you here! Thank you!

Sans! said...

Really , Janice, you can smell the fruits all the way in the UK ? *looking around to see if there are durians in the kitchen :)haha

Ana, that lamp is precious!

Ewa, I love my little house because of all my friends' lovely work. You guys are all so talented and I am proud , honoured and flattered that many of you have taken the time to make such wonderful miniatures for my humble home.

I will treasure them and yes, Ewa, if I may say so myself, they (including your wonderful books) look like they truly belong in that home.

Sans! said...

Birgit or Fluby?! That's cheating!Common, I challenge you to type Rosanna's words and then underline them here in this box! :)

Yea, you guessed right. You got me trying to do that and I couldn't, of course.

Bets, one day, you and I are going to stroll down a farm near where you live and you are going to show me exactly what, where, why and how of everything you have been telling me about your farm days :).

I keep seeing a little girl with 2 ponytails and freckles on her face. Were you a Pipi Longstocking or a Heidi? :):)

Sans! said...

My dear namesake, Susan :):). So good to see you here!

Sans! said...

Sindhi :), I have been so crazy busy this week ! It will be like this till end of the week I believe. No swimming for me and definitely no going out to play with you guys ;(.

I can't wait for the weekend. I am planning to spend at least 40 hours on minis and the rest of the 8 hours to sleep, eat, s&^t (rhymes with the other 2) ;)

Sans! said...

Amy, I am really lucky to have so many talented friends.Thank goodness for this blog which gives me a great platform to properly show off their great craftsmanship.

There is just so much art in my little house that are made by my friends and I want to showcase them all as the centerpieces that they are but it is just impossible.

By the way, Rajasthan is a must see before you die kind of place. Imagine an autumn morning, sitting outdoor in a splendorous palace garden learning embroidery from the Rabari tribal women. What joy!

Sans! said...

They are, aren't they?

Thank you Iris :)

Chadina, I am sure you have heard of Kiva Atkinson? Her work is amazing and very realistic even when you are looking at them between your fingers. Her fishes look like they are capable of jumping off your and when you are holding them. :)

The food in the 1st 2 pics were made by her.

I am extremely moved by your words, Flora. Fellow bloggers are always extremely kind and generous with their compliments and so I often give a 50% discount to the praises on my effort :):) but this time, I believe you because I do have masterpieces in my collection.

I love this house so very much , despite the rat, the termites or the wasps. The process of building this house may have changed my life....

Sans! said...

Virginia Isabel, la comida en el cuadro primero imagenes hechas por Kiva Atkinson. Cuando se trata de su trabajo, todo el mundo va a pensar que eran de verdad:)

Margriet, I wish our autumn here is as pretty as yours, but alas, I love autumn mainly because the weather is much cooler. Us tropics dwellers love our rain :).

Thank you for always coming here to listen to my stories. Tonight is a night I wish I am sitting under the stars with a campfire burning and people around me , listening to me telling a story :).

Sans! said...

Gracias Ascensión:). Muchos besos de tus dulces palabras

Sans! said...

Jennifer, I'm thrilled you came :). Double thrilled that you still like my spice tray despite it being showcased next to masterpieces :)

Dear Sans! I will treasure the day we get to stroll down a lane together.... I will TRY to REMEMBER enough of those LONG AGO days to tell you anything! You Must notice that it is when I see something YOU have posted about or made that Reminds me of those Farm Days...... the reality of hard work and rural life have mixed feelings.... and my experience was NOT the usual one because we moved to the Farm when I was sixteen.... until then it was suburban living...
Pigtails and freckles yes.... :)

Sans! said...

Bets, me pig-tailed too and that was as far as I have gone where farm animals are concerned.:) I will always respect and envy that chapter of your life in a farm .
