Day 232- A Dreamer's Screen Painting

This is a Daydreamer's story.

It is the story about a peacock

and a tiger

and

H   O   W

they each found the other so beautiful

that they just sat across the river

from each other

and stared.

Alas, this strange obsession angered the Gods so much

that they decided the creatures must be punished.

So the Gods built a four fold screen and then put

 the flighty peacock

and the mighty tiger

on opposite sides of the screen

so that they can never look the other in the eye again.

But you know what the creatures thought?

At least now we will be together forever.

The End

On 3rd March 2011, the day I was due to leave for India, I received a surprise package from Betsy, a daydreamer, an artist, my friend. I gasped out loud  when I opened the box, revealing a four fold screen, 6" tall and 9.5" wide with the most vivid depiction of India's iconic animals. Like the creatures for each other, I could not keep my eyes off the beauty of Betsy's art. Did you notice that apart from hand painting the  beautiful creatures, she had put crystals in the tiger's eyes and jewels on the peacock's head? Exactly how my Maharajah will want them..

The story I wrote on this post was inspired by another, also about a tiger and a peacock who saw each other when they were on different sides of a river. They instantly fell in love but because they could not cross the river, they could only stood and stare at each other. Being the compulsive basher that I am, I changed the ending of course.

So Betsy,  I hope you like the story that I have bashed for you by way of a thank you and to tell you how much your work has inspired me. Your screen will enjoy pride of place in my palace.

THANK YOU, my friend!

Hola Hola Maria Luisa:).

Katie, 20+ posts when I was in India?!! Phenomenal! :):)

I have really enjoyed catching up with what you guys have been doing and your posts made me laughed. Those panda bears you made for Kat is soooo cute :).

The screen is quite something, isn't it? And I agree with the peacock. They are so easy to love. When I was in Sri Lanka, I saw so many of them and I really think Betsy has captured its spirit in her painting. They are proud , beautiful and very very vain :).

Ascensión, buenas tardes! Una de las cosas que estoy disfrutando hoy en día es la lectura de todos los puestos he echado de menos cuando estaba en la India. Al igual que Betsy, ustedes han sido tan creativo:).

V, I have gone to Betsy's blog a few times with this post but I am saving some time to just sit and marvel at more of her art . So far the glimpses I caught of her chapel has been breathtaking and unforgettable.

I have visited your Vulture Roost again :). That is one house I really like too!

Hi my dear, I have so missed you and your stories, but I haven't spent much free time at the computer these last months, but it's good to be back.
Wonderful present! I could tell right away I set my eyes on that peacock that Betsy had to be the artist. It's absolutely stunning and I can't imagine all the work behind all those feathers!
I also loved your little story and especially the twist at the end. Truly inspired!

Good to have you back... hope you had a wonderful vacation. This wonderful gift is amazing - but your friend will know how much you appreciate it because of your lovely story. If peacock and tiger had a choice, they would choose your story ending...

Greetings

Thank you Lataina :)

Sans! said...

My dear Rosanna, will you believe me if I tell you I see a really happy ending for you ? :):) Really, really!

When I first published this post, the ending of my story was without the last 2 lines. It ended with "so that they can never look the other in the eye again". But then I thought the ending too morose and added the "happy ending". Of course, some may think so what that they are together, they can never look at each other?!" but I guess I am "a glass half full" kind of person rather than "a glass half empty". I see happy endings most of the time :):). Imagine the tiger and peacock really living together! It is just a matter of time , mighty tiger will have flighty peacock for dinner, right? haha

Now I owe you a mail but my nieces and nephew are coming to stay for the weekend in 2 hours and I know I won't have much time online. We are having Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner...sigh.....

Sans! said...

Drora, I am glad: to be home, that you like the screen and my story :) and that you are here :)

Sans! said...

Ewa, I am really looking forward to posting all about my last trip :). I have some "intimate" pictures to share..teehee . Just hope my little brats give me some time to spend on the blog.

Sans! said...

Grace, with this screen, I am officially adopting peacocks as the family bird of my maharajah , whatever that means :). A beautiful mini peacock is not easy to find. I am glad Betsy painted me one :)..so beautifully too.

Sans! said...

THANK YOU, ALISON! Teehee but from the bottom of my heart, I thank you even more for the really kind things you said :):) Way too generous though :):) but I don't care! haha

Sans! said...

Betsy :):) Photos usually don't do justice to the work but I am glad you thought mine do a fine enough job. You know I love blowing up my pictures so that details are obvious. And it is clear that your art have withstood the "blow-up test" perfectly.

I am so happy that I finally have the opportunity to look at your art up close after admiring it for so long on your blog.

Nathaniel wants to see the real thing so I am going to show it to him now. :)

Dear Sans! I have to confess that I love it that now I can come and look at my (Your!) screen any time I like..... in such beautiful settings.... (it is snow on the ground still in my country :))... with such expert "blow-up" photography! Did you Not imagine that I often get out my magnifying glass to see if my little dots of paint have landed where I hope they are landing?? It is one of the great joys for me, of digital photography, that I can see the details of my painting BETTER than with the naked eye!!! It makes me strive to get the paint right.... at least SORT OF..... because I never think it is EXACTLY right....
So I am LOVING your Post.... and even more so because the STORY is so Perfect!
Thank YOU, my dear Friend.... for being the inspiration!

Rosannnnnnnnnnna! 5kg!!!!! OMG! I want that diet of yours! This morning the kids were so disappointed that they didn't get McDonalds breakfast. I had to send them back to my mum's for Roti Prata. Did you eat these when you were here?

When I was little, especially when I was sick in bed, I liked to read a book of short stories from around the world ...
I remember something of a peacock and a tiger, living in lush and mysterious places ...
Now, these images and words, bring them back to my memory in a magical way ... You're a lucky girl to have so many friends sensitive, and we are all lucky to have you for friend :-)

Kikka, I was hoping to post this weekend on India ....4 hours to the end of the weekend, :) ok, let's see how much I can do in this 4 hours :).

Sans! said...

Norma (NZ) its one screen, both sides painted! Isn't it just wonderful? :):)

I just saw your Mardi Gras doll with the peacock print costume. I also bought a pair of pants called the "shit catcher" in peacock prints. Very hippy and maybe even hip in woodstock Rishikesh (that place is like a page off the 70's diary) but maybe not when I am back here ..hahaha

Sans! said...

Jollie :), you have given me something wonderful too :):) and I just saw your giveaway :). I will link my blog to it! Love love love all the things you made :)

Sans! said...

Helene, if you hadn't commented, I would have emailed you sometime next week. What with the nieces and nephew and work , I am really quite swarmed since India :).

But I am so happy you are back! I have missed you very much :). If I can reply to everyone and catch up on all your blogs, well, a Herculean task but then I am a super woman ..hahaha...maybe I will post something tonight about India.

You and Betsy are now the favoured painters in the palace. And with both your beauty, you have been assigned one of the best rooms in the Harem :):)!

Sans! said...

Kim, I am so glad you are here when I returned. :):):)

Have I told you yet, ok, maybe a 100 times already that I just love your journal :):):)

Sans! said...

Birgit :) thank you! Nothing is more rewarding for me when I tell a story than for my own characters to say "hey I want your ending " :):). You have made my day , my friend :).

Is Spring really here already where you are?

Sans! said...

Thank you, dear Contar :)

Sans! said...

CM, you are not so bad yourself + that amazingly sharp wit of yours, you ought to be writing bestsellers! :)

Sans! said...

Piiko, don't we all just love it when the peacock is parading with an expanded tail. Very very hard to see them like this in real life, I should know because I was in the Sri Lanka jungle fame for its peacocks and I think I saw one? like maybe 1 km away!!! and the other 999 just flying or walking around like a broom :):).

So I am glad Bets drew me this one :)

Sans! said...

Bets :):) You have made me really happy :)

Sans! said...

Flora, thank you *blush blush :).

I am really hoping someone can help me identify the story about the tiger and the peacock. I will love to read the full version:)
